What's wrong with this image?

This is, or was, the visitor map for this site for a recent timeperiod. It doesn't really surprise me that the US/Canada and the UK are the chief visitors. The large white area (no visits) that is Africa worries me though - not because I have a special desire for African visits, but because I rather feel it reflects the level of interest in technology across that continent generally. Yes most Africans have real and direct needs. But their countries also need to invest in the right technologies (not just IT) to help drive poverty away from that great continent.

Re: What's Wrong with this image?
I concur with your assesment regarding the pawcity of hits coming from the African continent. I do believe that the long term solution, as with most scenarios regarding current issues is to engage the children and hope for the future. Perhaps Nicholas Negropointe's OLPC is the answer.
High tech guys and girlies ;-)
I got 41 hits from Afrika last month, maybe they are more into XMLDB?
;-)
Percentages
Oh, by the way that was 0.69% of the total.
On the AMIS blog site this was 1.53% of the total from last month...

You're just way more popular than me :(

This is not surprising me,
This is not surprising me, but simply represent the English spoken country (also see India and Australia). Even in Africa, those colored in green are the English-spoken nations. Not sure this is a technology issue here.

native language
I'm sure there's an element of that, I however do see a number of visitors from SouthEast Asia (Korea, Thailand etc) , from Latin America and indeed from the rest of Europe, all places where English is hardly the native language. I don't expect the same number of visits from Africa, but the disparity is rather large.

Nothing wrong with the map.
Nothing wrong with the map. People tend to follow markets that lie in their range or in their field of vision. Obviously Oracle (and thus an Oracle related weblog) is out of their league.
